Notes

'Master of the Unruly Children' is the name given to an unknown Florentine Sculptor who made a number of terracotta statuettes of sturdy, high-spirited children. This particular piece shows Charity as a strong, capable mother, who is more than a match for her boisterous children. Far from being preoccupied with her charges, she stares challengingly at the viewer.
