One of a series of eleven studies for the watercolour 'The Wine of Circe' (1863-69), now in a private collection. Burne-Jones appears to be concentrating on the bent shape of Circe as she pours her magical potion into the wine amphora, before moving to work on studies of her loose garment.

Purchased and presented by subscribers, 1903.
