One of fifteen studies for this subject in Birmingham's collection. In the final version the Princess kneels with clasped hands, facing the spectator; rather than looking back over her shoulder towards St George as here.

The final painting is now in the collection of the Art Gallery of New South Wales, Sydney. A gouache version, omitting the Princess, is owned by William Morris Museum, Walthamstow.
