A study for the second painting in the series of seven canvases illustrating 'The Story of St George' for the dining room of the artist Myles Birket Foster, at Witley, Surrey.

The 1866 oil painting is now in the collection of Hanover College, Indiana. The figure of the king differs in the placement of the hands from that in the final version, in which the two standing figures in this study are omitted.

Purchased and presented by subscribers, 1903.
