This is a study for the wood engraving 'Danae in the Brazen Chamber'. The finished wood engraving was intended to be an illustration to Swinburne's poem 'Danae' in Once a Week (7 December 1867), but in the end was not used. The wood engraving was finally published in The Century Guild Hobby Horse in 1888.
