This is one of a number of drawings in the collection executed on pages from the same notebook with the watermark 'Joynson 1855.' Betty Elzea has identified the sketch as a copy of an etching dated 1648 by the Duitch artist Jacob van Ruysdael (c. 1628-1682) entitled 'The Wheatfield' (Frederick Sandys 1829-1904: A Catalogue Raisonné, p. 147).

Bequeathed by James Richardson Holliday, 1927.
