From a bound volume containing 86 studies for illustrations to 'The Story of Cupid and Psyche' made to accompany the poem in William Morris' 'The Earthly Paradise'.

There are many more figures in this study than appear in the wood engraving, where they were either removed or replaced. The figure in the centre rgiht, kneeling to dry Venus' leg, remains in the final version.

Bequeathed by James Richardson Holliday, 1927.
