Notes

From a bound volume containing 86 studies for illustrations to 'The Story of Cupid and Psyche' made to accompany the poem in William Morris' 'The Earthly Paradise'.

There are fewer figures in this study and more space, but the design differs from the woodcut, where there is an architectural background with a pool and fountain, and two musicians on the right.

Bequeathed by James Richardson Holliday, 1927.
