This ladies' visiting card case was made by F Stringer, one of the leading manufacturers of tortoiseshell products in Birmingham in the late nineteenth century. Birmingham was a thriving centre of production of luxury items such as tortoiseshell, mother-of-pearl and silver, and all of these elements are combined in this exquisite card case.
