Notes

Founded in 1885, Birmingham Photographic Society was amongst the leading provincial photographic societies of its day. Its membership list included the names of some of the leading amateur photographers of the day such as Mrs G A Barton and Sir Benjamin Stone. The Society ran a regular programme of lectures, demonstrations and competitions, and held an annual exhibition that was regarded as one of the highlights of Birmingham's cultural and social calendar.

In 1904, the exhibition, held in the rooms of the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists, included a competition section for the Warwickshire Photographic Survey, in which Thomas Clarke was awarded a bronze medal.
