Notes | This early drawing was made during Turner's tour of the Midlands in 1794. The style is highly decorative and rather stylised and is typical of the way Turner drew architectural subjects at this early period. In 1795 he exhibited a waterolour, perhaps derived from this study, at the Royal Academy. The sheet was, for many years, un-regarded and has been firmly attributed to the artist only recently. | Accessioned, 1970. |
