The people who lived in the villages bordering the alpine lakes of Switzerland, France and Germany made pottery in this typically black or dark grey fabric.It often imitates the shape of metal vessels. The incised geometric decoration can be quite elaborate and in some instances it was filled with white paste to give a two-tone effect.
