Notes

The heyday of the picture postcard was the period between 1900 and the First World War. During this time, picture postcards were the latest novelty. For the price of a penny, plus a halfpenny stamp, they allowed a quick and effective means of communication throughout the country. They often depicted local views including villages, streets, churches and other public buildings. This postcard is a modern reprint of an earlier photograph, published by Handsworth Historical Society.

Presented by Mrs Ruth Rendell, 1998.
