The term 'Famille Verte' refes to the glaze and means 'the green family'.
The image on this bowl is based on the story of 'The Water Margin', one of the four great Chinese classic novels. Here we see the first leader of the 108 heroes, Chaogai, fighting with the government army officer. In this battle Chaogai was shot by a poisonous arrow. He died shortly afterwards.
