The term 'Famille Rose' refers to the glaze and means 'the pink family' and describes the use of pink enamel.
Figures with musical instruments decorate this bowl. In Chinese culture, music was central to court rituals. It was believed to act as a bridge between heaven and earth. Each tradition and ceremony had a unique musical element. This ensured that the relevant gods and spirits would observe every significant deed of the court.
