This anonymous copper halfpenny token is one of many with radical political themes that were produced in the 1790s. On one side are two clasped hands and the motto 'May Slavery and Oppression Cease Throughout the World'. The design on the other side, an African kneeling in chains under the slogan 'Am I Not a Man and a Brother', reflects that on the seal of the Society for the Abolition of Slavery.
