This copper token depicts the Birmingham workhouse. It is one of a set with views of Birmingham issued by Peter Kempson in 1797.The workhouse was situated between Steelhouse Lane and Lichfield Street. Originally built in 1734, it expanded in size on several occasions during the eighteenth century.
