This ceremonial trowel is typical of the type of presentation objects made by Elkington's in the later 19th century. It is made of silver, not electro-plated, with an ivory handle. It was presented to Miss Frances Mary Collier on the occasion of her laying a memorial stone of the Wesleyan Agnes Cheadle Home in 1883.
