Notes

Sir Hubert von Herkomer is best known as a painter and printmaker. Birmingham's collection contains an oil painting, a watercolour and several prints by him. It is thought that this bracelet, depicting a portrait of the Herkomer both as a young boy and as a man, was commissioned by him as a gift to his second wife Lulu, whom he married in 1884.

Presented by The Friends of Birmingham Museums and Art Gallery in memory of Hilda Wingfield O.B.E., with additional financial assistance from the MGC/ VandA Purchase Grant Fund and The National Art Collections Fund, 1998.
